Charter Communications

Technical Project Manager

As one of the contract technical PM for Charter's 5 year, $5bn deployment of develop of 1G symmetrical high-speed internet on the iCMTS and DAA architectures across 8 US cities and the Carolinas I managed a complex schedule (more than 7k tasks and 14k dates across 5 vertical teams). Telecom technology was new to me with the project. There was a steep learning curve, but I like learning new technologies and love the challenge of this huge project.

Some of my activities:

◾Track key project milestones & adjust project plans

◾Part of the Strategic Process and Programs group, I design and generate decks to summarize activities and milestones for senior management and regional VPs

◾Identify risks and work towards their resolution

◾Conduct retrospectives as needed

◾Accustomed to holding large meetings, fielding scheduling questions & associated

On a second Charter assignment, I was part of a North Star team, pulling together and auditing milestone data across many multi-functional teams for senior leadership reporting

Kaban board I created for one of my construction project

Kaban boards provide a great visual task tracking. This one is from a storefront expansion/addition and first-floor remodel of a retail store. One of the challenging aspects of this project was completing almost all work during business hours while limiting impact to daily business operations.

Some the activities I performed

◾Conducted Feasibility studies, raised funding, selected vendors

◾Managing stakeholder engagement was key to this project’s success

◾Managed customer traffic flow and expectations

◾Oversaw/tracked progress, assured compliance with regulations/ordinances

◾Controlled project scope to prevent scope creep, a reoccurring threat to this project

◾Project completed on time and just under budget

Stakeholder engagement board

Here is stakeholder engagement board I use to track engagement drive project success. It also doubles as a CRM tool for our stakeholders.

Some the data I included:

◾Influence/Power on project outcome

Current stance on the project: Advocate/Neutral/Blocker

◾Priority level

◾Impact of project outcome

In addition to maintaining a board like this, I believe it is crucial to track how frequently we're reaching out to our stakeholders. Some prefer consistent, regular updates, while others favor a more streamlined, less frequent approach. Balancing these preferences is key to keeping everyone engaged and informed.

The QA Process

Here is excerpt from a QA process I wrote while working as a Technical Project Manager on a recent project.

Have clearly defined process in place before project kickoff is essential to the project's success. A well planned and documented QA process really helps to manage customer expectations and will greatly assist in keeping the QA process in budget.

Gannt Charts are great!

This is a Gannt a created for a proposal recently. Gantt charts provide a clear, visual representation that is particularly useful for stakeholders. They’re an essential tool for stakeholder engagements, ensuring both clarity and progress throughout.
